Octo's Ramblings
The Garianna Effect
It's when you mock something so weirdly anime for its source material, and you start to unironically like it.This is the effect's namesake. Everytime I look at her I have to keep reminding myself that this is literally a penguin. From Club Penguin. This thing, which could pass off as an anime girl had there been a few changes, is from Club. Penguin.
And Garianna isn't the only one with this effect. It also happened to Rabbid Edge.
Now I need to go through what the effect isn't. An anti-example would be the Snowlets (scroll a bit). They're just plain silly, and you like them because it's silly. The Garianna effect is when you actually like them like you would to an anime character.
Asperger's Syndrome (or, as it's called now, ASD)
While it's great that I get perks the neurotypicals don't get, I don't think it's worth it being associated with people like JustinRPG and the other guy I forgot the name of.I don't like the thought of sharing a neurodevelopmental disorder with others who had done disgusting things, and having to bear the thought that eventually, I might end up like them. I know there are other people with this disorder that have done great things, and I know that most of them end up not like them, but I still worry that there's a chance...
I also don't like it when people aren't honest towards me. Even though it might be out of regular human respect, I feel like I'm being infantilized, and it really, really doesn't help with my feeling of being a burden that does nothing but rant. Sometimes it even makes me feel like I'm the only sentient thing, and everyone else is an NPC (not in an egotistical way, 75% of the world population is smarter than me). Please. Be honest with me, be honest with people who ask you to. If you're honest with others, you can help them grow.
I like the Snowlets.
It's like Ink Theory. Some people take it at face value, so they think that it just sounds/looks bad. But once you start to listen/look at them for long enough, you'll start to find that they're actually quite endearing. I'm calling this effect the Ink Theory. Because the name is just perfect for an effect like this.Though, just standing there isn't doing them much favour, so here they are in different poses:
I think part of the appeal for me is that it feels like they aren't actively enjoying the sports, in fact they just seem completely indifferent to it.
Just like me!
Tangentially related, I don't like the mascots we got for the Youth Olympics (i'm from Singapore). I find them very bland. Sorry Lyo and Merly fans.
Robot Chicken's Homestar Runner sketch
I genuinely cannot stand watching this. It's so edgy and it defeats the point of Homestar Runner. Also, there's not even a mention of Bubs, but I think that's for the best.Though, people of my age would probably find it funny, so... good for them, I guess?
